Mid Surrey

On Sunday 11th May at 2.30pm we welcomed Mid Surrey to Egham for a friendly four mixed triples match.

It was a cooler day with outbreaks of sunshine which made very pleasant playing conditions.

The green was a lovely pace and our thanks go to Ian Crook our green ranger for coming down in the morning preparing the green and going over the green with the roller.

During the match, we had a nice surprise, when Alan and Barbara Pendelpho came over to watch and it was really lovely to see them both.

Unfortunately Alan now has some problems with his balance and has decided not to bowl anymore but he can at least drive his car so we hope we will see him visiting us again during the season.

After the match we sat down to a very enjoyable meal of cottage pie with vegetables and gravy, the opposing captain Steve was very complimentary about the meal and our green.

The highlight for me was being able to announce that four of our new members had just played their first match for the club, I said that I hoped that there will be many more.

The new members were Victoria and Amelia Rose, (mother and young daughter), and Ged and Teresa Boyer.

They all did extremely well with Victoria and Teresa being on the highest winning triple ably skipped by Denise Hayes.

I will add that Mid Surrey are a very hospitable and friendly club and this is always a fixture that I personally look forward to each season.

The result was a win for Egham 81 - 68

Rink scores:

Victoria Rose - Teresa Boyer - Denise Hayes won 30-15

Ged Boyer - Matt Tambling - Martin Hayes won 19-17

Amelia Rose - Jackie Dickens - Roy Spencer drew 15-15

Alan Burrows - John Kidd - Richard Edwards lost 17-21
