Ladies v Gents

Sunday 22nd June saw a spirited and entertaining Ladies v Gents bowls match held under sunny skies and with good humour. Despite a very busy calendar - including the men's Top Club, Tony Alcock & some individual county competitions being held on the same day, a healthy turnout of 30 players took to the green, showing great enthusiasm for this friendly contest.

From the first end, the ladies put up a fierce fight, cheered on by encouraging calls from the lady skips and great celebrations on the occasions they knocked the men's bowls off the jack ! Their determination and team spirit were evident throughout the afternoon making for an enjoyable match.

While the gents certainly had the upper hand, in the end their lead was cut down massively by a series of light - hearted penalties for misdemeanours such as running up the green, swapping positions and visiting the head when they shouldn't have!  Other examples included Mark being penalised for scoring too many shots against his 'work boss' on the first end and Will scoring too highly against his 'nan' on another session. These humorous infractions brought the scores much, much closer - resulting in a draw!

Gill Davey and Mark Bishopp, were the winners of the spider who proved to be the luckiest lady and gentleman nearest to the jack in a flurry of bowls from all directions.

Following the match, players gathered for a meal of lasagne, garlic bread, and salad. The evening continued with drinks at the bar and plenty of cheerful banter, with teams celebrating a day of laughter, friendship, and a lot of friendly rivalry.

A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped organise the event. Here's to many more matches like this!
